Nikon D50
Single-lens reflex digital camera
Effective Pixels: 6.1 million
This camera was a birthday present from my parents in April 2006, and actually my first real digital camera. Since I had been using SLRs exclusively for a very long time, I looked down on all "lesser" cameras. As such, I pretty much avoided digital cameras alltogether until I could actually get a digital SLR. Back them, I really only did photography when on vacations, so the need was not all that urgent.
Of course that all changed about a month before I went on a vacation in the summer of 2007. I realized that if I'm going to keep saying that photography is one of my hobbies, I might as well actually practice it!

Nikon N6006
Integral-motor autofocus 35mm single-lens reflex
Picture format: 24mm x 36mm (standard 35mm film format)
I got this camera as a Bar Mitzvah present from my Uncle in April 1994. It was a huge upgrade from my previous cameras, which were my parents' old fully-manual Pentax and Ricoh SLRs. I actually stuck with this camera up until getting the D50 above, since no "lesser" digital camera felt equal to me.
